Goldwin Launches Circular Project “Circular Action,” Introducing Digital Product Passports

Goldwin Inc. announced on September 30, 2026 that it will launch “Circular Action,” a project under its own Goldwin brand that regenerates and recirculates wear that has reached the end of its service life through repair and upcycling. As the first installment, the company will sell a limited quantity of “upcycled products” made from collected and regenerated uniforms of Japan’s national freestyle ski moguls team at GRAVITY KANDA (Chiyoda City, Tokyo) from October 15 to 25, 2026.

Since the 2018–19 season, the company has supplied uniforms to Japan’s national freestyle ski team across the moguls, ski cross, and aerials disciplines. This initiative starts with the moguls team, collecting uniforms actually worn by athletes in competitions and training, and transforming them into seven types of products, including tote bags, sacoches, helmet cases, goggle cases, pouches, and drawstring bags. In developing the products, the team designed them to minimize waste by making use of not only the main body of the garments but also hoods and other parts wherever possible. Because the products are made from used uniforms, the colors, patterns, and specifications differ from piece to piece.

The products incorporate a Digital Product Passport (DPP). By scanning the QR code on the product tag with a smartphone, customers can access information about the product before upcycling, the athlete who wore it, the background of the regeneration process, environmental information such as CO2 emissions, care instructions, contact information for repair services, and details on reuse and collection.

This initiative is also part of a demonstration project anticipating the wider adoption of DPPs in the apparel industry going forward, and is intended to test new ways of communicating a product’s provenance and value to consumers. Goldwin is also participating as one of the brands and businesses in a joint proof-of-concept project on DPP utilization in the apparel sector led by CYKLUS Inc. and NTT Docomo Business Inc.

A portion of the sales proceeds will be donated to the Ski & Snowboard Association of Japan (SAJ), a public interest incorporated foundation, to support athletes’ activities. By creating products that are not designed with disposal in mind, the company aims to extend product lifespans and promote resource circulation, while also returning sales revenue to support athletes, with the goal of building a circular support model. This effort is set against the backdrop of a growing problem: snow shortages caused by climate change are affecting competitive environments and athletes’ opportunities to train and compete.

Yukiya Horishima, a member of Japan’s national moguls team who won medals in two events at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, commented: “I feel it is deeply meaningful that the uniform I kept as a memento is returning to society with a new role. As athletes, it also makes us happy to know that the uniforms we wore in competition will now pass into the hands of the people who support us, and will be used for a long time to come.” On October 14, the day before sales begin, the same store will also host a talk session with Horishima.
