Toli Corporation and Asahi Kasei Homes Corporation have announced the creation of a resource circulation scheme aimed at expanding closed-loop (bottle-to-bottle style) recycling of domestically produced tile carpets.
By combining Asahi Kasei Homes’ collection network with Toli’s tile carpet recycling technology, the two companies have launched an initiative that broadens the scope of recycling beyond their own individual product brands to cover domestically produced tile carpets as a whole. Asahi Kasei Homes’ collection network is based on the “wide-area certification system” (kōiki nintei seido), under which the Minister of the Environment certifies operators engaged in material recovery of waste, removing the need to obtain separate permits from each prefecture or municipality. Material recovery under this scheme began in August 2026.
Under the new scheme, Asahi Kasei Homes uses the wide-area certification system to collect offcuts of domestically produced tile carpet generated at new-build construction sites. The collected offcuts are sorted and consolidated at Asahi Kasei Homes’ resource circulation center before being transported to a Toli factory, where they are processed using Toli’s proprietary technology—including the pile layer (the fiber portion)—to recover the material. The recycled chips obtained through this process are used as a raw material for “Sustiback,” Toli’s backing material for tile carpets.
Toli’s environmentally friendly tile carpets made using these recycled chips will be adopted in shared indoor spaces of “Hebel Maison” apartment buildings developed by Asahi Kasei Homes. This will achieve closed-loop recycling for tile carpets.
The initiative reflects a broader trend in the construction sector toward reusing spent materials as resources, with efforts to collect and recover tile carpets also advancing. Toli has previously developed proprietary technology for closed-loop recycling of tile carpets without separating the pile layer from the backing layer (the PVC resin portion, etc.), and has used its own wide-area certification to collect and recycle used tile carpets of its own brand. Meanwhile, Asahi Kasei Homes has used the wide-area certification system to collect materials generated at construction sites and promote resource circulation.
Going forward, the two companies aim to expand resource circulation for tile carpets through the operation of this scheme, contributing to the realization of a circular society.
