REMARE Inc., together with Kokuyo Co., Ltd. and Kaunet Co., Ltd., will co-host the “REMARE Plastic SUMMIT 2026 Exhibition,” a showcase of recycled plastic materials, over three days from October 14 to 16, 2026, at Kokuyo’s Tokyo Shinagawa office, “THE CAMPUS.”
Based in Toba City, Mie Prefecture, REMARE has been engaged in material recovery of waste plastic originating from marine plastic. Beyond single-material plastics, the company has succeeded in developing proprietary technology to recover value from composite plastics—materials that were previously often incinerated or landfilled—and now manufactures recycled plastic products centered on panel materials. Under the mission of “storing plastic in society, without burning or burying it,” REMARE provides end-to-end support spanning material development, product design, and implementation in spaces and fixtures.

Launched in 2025, “REMARE Plastic SUMMIT” is a project through which REMARE has explored new applications for materials in collaboration with companies and creators, and this marks its second edition. This year, seven companies representing key sectors of Japanese manufacturing—food, automotive, electrical equipment, and stationery—joined forces with rising designers, working from each company’s waste materials to create concrete product prototypes together with the designers. The participating companies are Kanro Co., Ltd., Kokuyo Co., Ltd., DENSO Corporation, Nitto Kogyo Corporation, Fuji Seal International, Inc., Misaka Light Industry Co., Ltd., and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.
The exhibition, with industrial designer NAO IWAMATSU serving as creative director, presents a process in which the background and story behind each company’s waste materials are transformed into new value through dialogue with the designers. Rather than simply creating one-off products from waste materials, the project deliberately pursues designs premised on mass production, aiming to present a system through which waste materials themselves can be circulated. By bringing together companies from different industries with different types of waste materials under one roof, the exhibition seeks to demonstrate the possibilities of recycled plastic from multiple angles and establish it as a material of choice in architecture and product design.

The venue will feature the finished products alongside samples of the waste materials and the stories tracing their journey from raw material to finished product. Talk events will also be held concurrently during the exhibition period, including an opening talk and designer talks. In addition, a market corner will sell some of the exhibited products, and an official archive book (catalogue) will also be available for purchase.
