Tokyo Board Kogyo Co., Ltd. and Sanyo UD Co., Ltd. have launched an initiative for the complete circular recycling of wood waste generated at construction sites. The scheme combines the industrial waste Wide-area Certification (a national scheme that allows manufacturers to collect and recycle waste from their own products across prefectural boundaries without obtaining separate local waste-disposal permits) held by Sanyo Kogyo and Sanyo UD with the material recycling system of Tokyo Board Kogyo, which has been entrusted with operating the scheme.
Under this initiative, Sanyo UD’s products are combined with Tokyo Board Kogyo’s technology for recovering material from wood waste and manufacturing particleboard, creating a resource circulation model that goes beyond simple carbon fixation. On the logistics side, T.B. Logistics, a subsidiary of Tokyo Board Kogyo, handles both the delivery of particleboard to construction sites and the collection of wood waste from those sites in a unified operation, enabling efficient, waste-free transport and recycling over the shortest possible distances.
The circular model rests on three pillars.
The first is efficient collection under the Wide-area Certification: based on the certification obtained by Sanyo Kogyo and Sanyo UD, the companies have established a system to properly and promptly collect wood waste discharged from construction sites.
The second is high-quality material recovery: Tokyo Board Kogyo uses the collected wood waste as 100% of the raw material to manufacture its recycled particleboard, “E・V・A® Board.”
The third is circulating the product back to construction sites: the E・V・A® Board that is produced is supplied once again as a base material for Sanyo UD’s sound-insulating raised floor system, “UD System Floor,” for use at condominium construction sites and elsewhere.
In the construction industry, reducing CO₂ emissions across a building’s entire life cycle (building LCA, or life cycle assessment) has become a top priority on the path to a decarbonized society. Tokyo Board Kogyo’s E・V・A® Board has obtained certification under the international standard “EPD International” and the domestic standard “SuMPO EPD” (an environmental product declaration program run by Japan’s Sustainable Management Promotion Organization). Thanks to this, the flooring system supplied through this initiative allows for detailed calculation of CO₂ emissions within a building’s LCA. Through this mechanism, the two companies aim to support building owners and general contractors in achieving carbon neutrality.
Tokyo Board Kogyo Co., Ltd. is an environmental company that handles everything from wood waste recycling to the manufacturing, sale, and logistics of its recycled particleboard, “E・V・A® Board.” Sanyo UD Co., Ltd. is a group company of Sanyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. and manufactures and sells sound-insulating raised floor systems for multi-unit residential buildings; in April 2025, it jointly obtained the Wide-area Certification together with Sanyo Kogyo.
